Someone had sexually assaulted me and when I told someone about it who I thought would give me the support I needed to press charges, he turned out to be so protective of the abuser that he said he'd hire private investigators to follow me around, monitor all my calls and computer to find any evidence of bad behavior on my part to discredit me since I don't have DNA evidence (was too scared to go to the hospital or police). So that succeeded in preventing me from pressing any charges. Since PIs are obviously a legitimate and popular business, is it really legal then to have hired someone to follow and monitor me? It's not like I do anything bad but the thought of it creeped me out like I'd always have to look over my shoulder and all that.
